Founded in 2007, Design Reaction cultivates a collection of user-submitted socially, politically, and environmentally conscious poster designs for non-profit use through the Creative Commons copyright license.
Our mission is:
to provide a platform for professional, amateur, and student graphic designers to create posters for causes they are passionate about, and disseminate them to a public audience
to serve as a resource for non-profit agencies in need of poster design, and to give them the opportunity to make specific calls for posters to the Design Reaction community
to give exposure to designers and non-profit organizations, and to encourage the public community to become involved in socially responsible design

Why we’ve chosen to use Creative Commons
Design Reaction applies the Creative Commons copyright license to the posters submitted to the web site. The Creative Commons license offers a “Some Rights Reserved” level of protection compared to traditional “All Rights Reserved” copyright licenses. The specific Creative Commons license that will be applied to poster submissions is the Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives license. This means visitors who download the posters are free to copy, distribute and display the work. They are restricted from using the poster for commercial purposes or making modifications to it in any way. Visit the Creative Commons web site to learn more about this new type of copyright protection.

File Requirements and Preparation
The poster submission consists of two files: a Press Quality PDF and a low resolution JPEG. Please download the template for your poster to be designed in. This is available in Adobe Illustrator Creative Suite, Encapsulated Post Script (EPS), Adobe InDesign Creative Suite and Adobe Photoshop Creative Suite format. Your poster must be saved as a Press Quality PDF file with the dimensions of 11″ wide x 16″ high. The maximum file upload size is 20 megabytes for the PDF file. We will place your completed poster in the attribution template and add the name(s) of the designer(s) and year created. A low resolution JPEG must also be uploaded. This should be an RGB color mode file with the dimensions of 288 pixels wide x 419 pixels high at 72 ppi (for web use). Contact us using the form below if you have questions about the file requirements.

Isn’t this just a design competition?
The idea of a competition was never an intention of Design Reaction. The ideal participating designer is not seeking fame or glory. They simply want to use their skills to give back to organizations that are involved in making the world a better place. Our goal is not to devalue the design profession. In one respect, this project was developed to raise awareness about the impact that design can have. We have set guidelines that aim to prevent non-profits from solely relying on Design Reaction for design. For example, Design Reaction only distributes poster designs. Additionally, participating non-profit organizations are limited to having two Call for Posters proposals selected each year.
Even if my poster is not selected by the non-profit that submitted the Call for Posters, does it still go in the poster gallery?
In addition to providing posters to participating non-profits, Design Reaction has a goal of creating a visual database of poster reactions to events impacting the public good. This database is searchable and will provide insight into how the creative community reacted to issues happening in the world around us. The database will serve as a resource for other designers interested in design for the public good.
Can I upload whatever I want? And will you post it?
Design Reaction reserves the right to remove any user-submitted content for any reason and without notice, at the administrator’s sole discretion. Instances of content removal may include, but are not limited to, content that infringes on another party’s intellectual property rights, content that we consider commercial, bigoted, or harmful, and any content that we deem otherwise contrary to Design Reaction’s mission.
